Intergenerational music

Playground Proms’ intergenerational projects bring people of different ages together to share the joy of live music. By creating relaxed, welcoming concert experiences, we connect children, older people, families and carers through performance, participation and shared listening.

Following a successful pilot in 2025, intergenerational concerts will form a growing part of our work in 2026. These projects take place in community settings such as care homes, libraries, and other local venues, where access to live music can be limited and social connection is especially valuable.

Children often take part as performers or participants alongside Playground Proms musicians, helping to create moments of shared experience with older audiences. Schools are involved as partners where appropriate, but the focus remains on delivering high-quality, uplifting musical experiences for the wider community.

Each project is shaped by the venue and the people taking part, ensuring that performances feel informal, inclusive, and enjoyable for everyone present.
